Rosa 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' (Climbing)
Rosa 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' (Climbing) was discovered by Charles Bennett in Australia and is a sport of Rosa 'Souvenir de la Malmaison'. It is bourbon climbing rose.
Rosa 'Souvenir de la Malmaison' (Climbing) is one of the most fragrant roses in our gardens at Brookgreen. However, it does tend to be susceptible to botrytis blight on its flowers and flower buds.
Botrytis Blight is a fungal problem that can cause the flowers, buds, and leaves to develop a gray and fuzzy appearance over them, similar looking to wet paper. This is not a critical issue and is easily remedied by simply removing the infected plant material and disposing of it to limit its spread to the rest of the rose, or other roses nearby.
At Brookgreen Gardens, roses are rarely sprayed for fungal, insect, or other environmental pressures or problems. The Poetry Garden at Brookgreen Gardens is maintained as a completely spray-free rose garden, favoring the use of disease resistant roses and proper cultural practices.
